“Know Your Rights” Presentation for Spanish Speakers
Do you know someone who could benefit from learning essential information to protect individuals and their families in case of immigration detentions/ICE raids? Sonoma County Library will host a virtual Spanish-language presentation on Wednesday, March 12, at 6 p.m. to provide information that will help our community’s Spanish speakers, regardless of legal status. Registration is required.
“Sonoma County Library is committed to providing reliable information to meet the needs of our community, not only through books and news media, but also through informational presentations such as this collaboration with Catholic Charities,” said Sonoma County Library Adult Services Administrator Aleta Dimas.
Catholic Charities of Northwest California CEO Jennielynn Holmes said, “At Catholic Charities, we believe that knowledge is power — especially for immigrant families who are vital to our region. With so much fear and uncertainty, we want to ensure our community feels safe, informed and empowered to protect their rights. Partnering with the Sonoma County Library allows us to reach even more people, providing critical information in a way that is accessible and secure. We hope that everyone who attends walks away with not only knowledge but also resources they can share to help others in our community.”
Visit your local library to pick up free materials and red cards, which help people assert their rights and defend themselves in certain situations, such as if they are arrested or detained. The library also provides yellow cards with a hotline number and information to use in cases of ICE harassment or detainment.
